After meeting these two at the hospital for their 6 hour freshies, I was SO EXCITED to see them again for their in home newborn portraits. Both babies had been super healthy at the hospital ( if a little too in a rush to get out of mama) and I had a great feeling about their session.
The first few weeks after a baby is born tend to have a sort of dreamy slowness to them; the home is sleepy and new, parents are exhausted but still full of thrilled love, everyone sort of tip toes around and there are a lot of naps. These parents were making twins look easy, I swear it.
Dad came home on his lunch hour for these portraits and it was so cool to see him just slide into place in the family unit, picking up Donovan and chit chatting his wife about the kids morning. It was comfortable and intimate; it made me feel like a family member and a fly on the wall all at once.
Unfortunately for dad, he had to go back to work before we got to start the babies more formal posed images. I tend to offer a mix of lifestyle and posed for my newborn clients because it covers all the bases and when we do it all in home, it keeps things so easy for mom and dad.
Boy, was dad surprised when he saw these in the viewing session. He actually went, " OH MY GOD, they are so cute!"
Mom was radiant during this session; full of all the intense love and fear of new mothering. When Donovan started to cry towards the end of the session ( he was practically a perfect baby the whole time, for the record) mom started to get a little teary and asked if we could just stop, which of course, we did. We all know the awful feeling of hearing your child cry, welcome to motherhood!!
