Every birth story is phenomenal, exciting, terrifying and wonderful; this story is all those things and more.
I don't want to get TOO into details about the struggle mom and dad went through to bring these precious babies into the world, suffice to say that it was hard and long and full of disappointments and sorrows. We tend to take fertility for granted and then suddenly it's difficult and we are totally unprepared for that. These parents powered through like troopers and their reward was these perfect babies.
I am lucky to know these awesome two through my lovely wife ( she works with dad) and so one morning, she called me and said, "I think you need to get the babysitter, Chris just rushed out of here looking scared". I texted mom right away and sure enough, her water had broken at 34 weeks and 5 days and we were in GO TIME.
I arrived about 45 minutes before her scheduled c section, so we sat around joking about the weird faces attached to the pain chart and making nervous jokes to lighten the mood. Mom and Dad had waited 6 years for these little guys and the moment was now SO CLOSE.
Finally, it was time to get ready to go into surgery. Since Alisha was early, we hadn't gotten permission from the doctor yet for me to be in the room and since she was having twins, they basically instantly vetoed extra people being in the room.
and then. they were here.
Because both babies were born before the 36 week mark they were taken straight to NICU where they had to stay for a minimum of 12 hours to monitor them. Both babies were incredibly healthy and came out truly perfect!
Because of health complications, mom wound up waiting 9 hours to see her little ones ( she had to be cleared to move safely). The meeting was intensely beautiful and still brings tears to my eyes.
A little video of the (long and miraculous) day:
